Mangaluru: A fishing expedition turned deadly early Wednesday when a boat capsized in the Phalguni River, within the jurisdiction of the Kavoor Police Station. The incident, which occurred on April 1st, resulted in two young men being swept away by the river’s current.
The victims have been identified as Ganesh, aged 28, and Royal, aged 24, both residents of Kunjathbail.

Preliminary reports indicate that Ganesh, Royal, and a third individual, Nithesh, embarked on a fishing trip at approximately 1:30 AM. It is understood that their boat unexpectedly capsized during the outing. While Nithesh was able to swim to safety, Ganesh and Royal, who were reportedly unable to swim, were carried away by the river.

Authorities were immediately alerted, and personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services, in conjunction with local divers, initiated an extensive search and rescue operation. The body of Ganesh has been recovered. As of now, efforts are still underway to locate Royal.

The Kavoor Police Station has registered a case, and a thorough investigation is currently in progress.
