Brahma Ratha costing Rs 2.5 Cr Stops at Kudla on its Way to Kukke Subramanya Temple

Mangaluru: The brand new chariot donated to Kukke Subramanya Temple by entrepreneurs Muttappa Rai and Ajith Shetty at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore, which was flagged off at Koteshwar on Monday, September 30, graced by Udupi District Minister-in-charge Basavaraj Bommai, Muthappa Rai’s wife, Prathap Chandra Shetty chairman legislative council, Former state minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Nithyananda Muddodi president of Subramanya Kukke Temple, made its long journey by truck through Udupi, Mulki, Surathkal and reached Mangaluru late Monday night.

It is learnt that the Brahma Ratha built at a cost of nearly Rs 2.5 crore happens to be the largest Ratha in Karnataka State, and the cost was borne by two business tycoons Muthappa Rai and his friend Ajith Shetty, after a appeal from Kukke Subramanya Temple committee was made to Rai, and in response Rai, along with his friend Shetty readily agreed to bear the expenses of the Ratha. The 64.1 feet long and 18 feet wide Brahma Ratha was carved by the National Shilpa Guru Laxminarayana Acharya of Koteshwar. Sources reveal that in 2010, Muttappa Rai and his family had also donated a Brahma Ratha to Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Puttur, in Dakshina Kannada district.

This morning the truck carrying the Brahma Ratha which was parked on the side of National Highway opposite to Padau College, Mangaluru ( since it was difficult for the truck to proceed near Kadri Temple due to space), where a puja was offered, which was graced by MLA’s Vedavyas Kamath and Dr Bharath Shetty, former MLA L R Lobo, Congress leader Harish Kumar, Kadri Temple Board members- Dr A J Shetty, former MCC Mayor Bhasker Moily, Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Rakesh Malli, Ex-corporator Ashok D K, Pushparaj Jain, BJP member Rajgopal Rai, Kukke Subramanya Temple president Nithyanand Muddodi, among others.

After the puja, the journey of the truck carrying the Brahma Ratha proceeded towards Kadaba, which is suppose to reach their tonight.Tomorrow, On October 2 a mega vehicle procession along with the Ratha is planned from Kadaba culminating at. Kukke Subramanya Temple.
