Bread Fruit ‘N’ Lamb

1 kg Lamb (Mutton) cut in medium cubes and cleaned
1 Bread Fruit (Divi-Guzo) peeled, cut in medium, triangle shaped cubes and cleaned.



Ingredients for grinding:


? coconut grated
4 cloves of garlic
8 long red chillies
1 big onion
3 tsp coriander
1 tsp cumin seeds
? tsp turmeric powder
? tsp pepper
? tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp kaskas (optional)
4 cloves
2? cinnamon
1 marble sized tamarind


Fry the above ingredients (except coconut and garlic) on a frying pan and grind them all to a fine paste.


Boil mutton with salt (as per taste) and bay leaves (pressure cook if you like to have it soft).


Boil Bread Fruit cubes with little water and salt (as per taste) for about 10 minutes or till it is cooked.



Preparation of curry:


Take little oil or ghee (as per preference) in a cooking vessel and fry curry leaves, add one sliced onion  and fry till golden brown now add the ground paste fry for 2mins, add the water and keep the curry medium thick. When it starts to boil add the cooked mutton with the bay leaves and the cooked breadfruit cubes, check for salt if needed and finally take a good boil.



This curry can also be prepared with the ash pumpkin (kuvalo) instead of Bread Fruit with the same ingredients.


Bread fruit used as a snack or a starter:


Cut bread fruit into long thin slices and apply the paste which is a mixture of chilly powder, salt, vinegar and a pinch of turmeric powder. Keep it for atleast 20 mins and then shallow fry on a pan to a brownish color with little oil, turning them over on both sides.



Marinated Bread Fruit slices……    Fried and ready to eat.
