We cannot be happy even after Gauri’s killers are found: Kavitha Lankesh

Bengaluru: Filmmaker Kavitha Lankesh on Thursday said that her family cannot be happy anymore even if the investigating team will find out the killers of his sister Gauri Lankesh. She was addressing the media persons in Bengaluru.

Late Gauri Lankesh has been awarded the Annual Anna Politkovskaya award for her contribution to society in bringing equality. It’s an International award named after famous Russian Journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who was killed in 2006 for her courage to speak out on behalf of the suffering civilians in the war-hit zone.

Kavitha said, “It’s been a month. Our family cannot be happy anymore because we have lost our elder sister. We are honoured as her work is identified in International level. Even today the protests are happening across the country. I request this case should not get vanished.”

Gauri will be sharing the award with a Pakistani activist Gulalai Ismail, who is fighting against the Islamic extremism in her country. Gauri’s mother Indira Lankesh, brother Indrajit Lankesh and Gauri’s friend Asha Devi were also present.

When asked about the investigation, Kavitha said, “The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is carrying out the investigation well. It needs a lot of footwork. When the murder took place due to personal reason it’s easy for them to identify, but it really takes time when it’s with the ideological differences. More than bringing the killers to the limelight, we want to know the motive behind it.”
