Car Procession of Our Lady of Vailankanni held ahead of the annual feast at Kalmady
Udupi: As part of the annual feast celebrations marking the anniversary of the dedication of the Velankanni Our Lady of Health Shrine at Stella Maris Church, Kalmady, a grand car procession carrying the statue of Our Lady of Velankanni was held from Adi-Udupi to Kalmady Church on Thursday.

Rev. Fr. Franklin D’Souza of the Diocese of Shivamogga blessed the statue of Our Lady of Velankanni and formally flagged off the procession.
Carrying the statues of the patron saints of churches in public processions as a mark of honour during annual feast celebrations is an integral part of Christian tradition. Describing Our Lady of Velankanni as a miraculous Mother, Rev. Fr. Franklin D’Souza offered prayers and blessings, wishing that the graces of Jesus Christ would reach everyone through her intercession.
The procession began at Adi-Udupi and proceeded on foot along the route to Kalmady Church. This was followed by a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Rev. Fr. Franklin D’Souza, who also delivered the homily.
The annual feast of the Velankanni Our Lady of Health Shrine will be celebrated on August 15. The festive Eucharistic celebration at 10.30 a.m. will be presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford D’Souza, Bishop of the Diocese of Udupi.
Shrine Rector Rev. Fr. Baptist Menezes, Parish Pastoral Council Vice-President Naveen Fernandes, Secretary Presilla Alva, Commission Coordinator Denis Lasrado and members of the church feast celebration committee were present.
