Carine D’Souza of Inoli Secures First Rank in M Tech

Mangaluru: She is indeed aiming high and is flying high. After all, she is into Aerospace Engineering.

In the recent past, students hailing from semi-urban regions have been making a mark in the academic field, which is a refreshingly amazing development.

Carine Viola D’Souza of Inoli located to the north of the University campus in Mangalagangotri has secured first rank in M Tech (Aerospace Propulsion).

Daughter of Canute and Veena D’Souza couple, Carine has a brother, Calvin, and a sister, Cavita. She had her secondary education in St Agnes High School, Mangaluru and scored 91.5% marks.

She had her PU studies in St Aloysius PU College, followed by Engineering studies, specializing in Aeronautical Engineering at KBNCE, Gulbarga.

Medal – a matter of pride

She took up M Tech studies in Aerospace Engineering at Visvesvaraya Institute of Advanced Technology (VIAT), Bengaluru and secured 82%, thereby bagging the first rank.

Quite expectedly she secured an immediate employment in the highly specialized field. She has a work experience of over a year in developing Custom Applications and providing technical support to premier R&D sectors like the armed forces and their wings.

Sharing the happy moment with the parents

*****
Amidst her busy schedule, she spoke to this writer very articulately:

What is your career objective?

I aim at obtaining a challenging position where I can utilize my skills to develop, implement and execute the novel algorithm for challenging, research-oriented project with good professional growth.

Technology had for years remained a boys’ domain for decades. It is only during the past 30-40 years that the female students have made a steady entry into it. What made you to take this specialized stream?

Nowadays parents force children to pursue Engineering in very common fields. But not many are actually exposed to multiple branches of Engineering which are rare and which contribute to our nation.

As soon as I passed II PU, I happened to spot Aeronautical Engineering in the CET brochure, and I was so fascinated by it. “Why not give it a shot?” I thought. And I made the right decision.

I urge the parents to think out of the box and believe in their children rather than impose subjects on them.

Who are the ones who inspired you during your academic journey?

I am very thankful to my parents who supported my decision and encouraged me throughout my academics. I am very thankful to Fr Stany Pereira for guiding me to do M Tech soon after I finished B.E.
Also I am very thankful to all family members who supported me in every way.

These days, a lot of achievers are emerging from semi-urban or suburban centres. What is your message to those boys and girls of similar brilliance who would otherwise not come into focus?

Coming from a rural, urban or a semi-urban area should not matter. What really matters is a desire to achieve the goal whatever comes your way. Even though it affected my sports career I did not let it go in academics.

How do you describe your parents’ role?

“Behind every young child who believes in herself is a parent who believed in her first”. This statement is very true in my case. My parents are the reason ‘why I am’ and ‘who I am’.

They have supported me in every step and have sacrificed a lot. I have seen my father come up in life in the face of all hardships. Now I am delighted to see them smile and know that the reason behind it is me.

What are your future plans?

I’m planning to pursue Ph D if I get into an IIT. For now, I am working in an Aerospace and Defence Company in Bangalore. I would like to serve the aerospace and defence field of our nation.

Who do you owe your success to?

I owe my success to Almighty God, my parents, family and faculty who have helped me achieve my goal.

Indeed thinking out of the box. When one is in Aerospace sector, the ideas have to be ”out-of-this-world”. Haven’t they?
