As Chairman of the Coastal Development Authority, Alva put forward a request on behalf of the citizens of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts of Karnataka to direct the authorities to add 1st AC Coach facility to Train No 16523 (Bengaluru to Karwar) and Train No 16524 (Karwar to Bengaluru).

Alva briefed the minister that this service is extremely convenient as it is an overnight train via Mangaluru. The highway that connects Mangaluru with Bengaluru currently sees traffic jams almost daily and upgrades are still on. This facility will greatly increase revenue to the railways and will also give passengers from these areas the option of more comfort during their journey. It will also boost tourism and offer comfort to passengers while they travel to our scenic coastline.

The minister agreed to the proposal and has asked the railway officials to implement it at the earliest.
