  1. This report is a great example of everything wrong in our country. It starts with a great news of one young lady winning olympic medal. She deserves all the credit for achieving this – Not an easy task for someone from India. Why? Well, look at rest of the report and see how it lists a number of unknowns from Bollywood and their responses. Even when a talented young lady wins at international level, our media puts the focus back on unknowns from Bollyywood who are a big zero at international level. How can a truly talented person ever succeed in India when the spotlight is always on cricket and bollywood? Oh well…

  2. I agree with the views expressed by Original R. Pai about Hollywood and cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar, has played a sport that has no connection with Olympic Games and, again, what has Salman Khan, a Bollywood actor to do with Olympics? How come they are chosen to be Brand Ambassadors, when there are many retired sportsmen who had attended Olympics held in the past, including Milkha Singh?

Then there is the Sports Minister, who goes to various venues at the Olympic Games with his sycophants and officials without accreditation cards and they misbehave with Brazilian and other countries’ officials assuming that since they are netas, they can do whatever they want and they are answerable to no one. They have to realise that impeachment proceedings have been initiated against Dilma Rouseff, a serving Brazilian President. Is that possible in India against any Ruling Party’s politician?

The Sports Minister should be taken to task for bringing disrepute to the country which was aired by electronic media. Has he gone to Rio for taking selfies and beach parties? Did he go to the Copacabana beach? It appears that Rs. 10 million was sanctioned so that the Sports Minister and his spouse could have a fantastic time all at the taxpayers’ cost.

  3. CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!

Great Achievement, you have made the nation proud, keep up the good work

  4. I extend my warm congratulations to Ms. Sakshi Malik who, by winning the bronze medal in wrestling, has done the country proud.

Unlike cricket, which has never been played in Olympics or at International meets, wrestling has international stature. Before any Sports Minister attends Olympic Games, he should ensure whether he has done his job well, i.e. assuring the welfare of sportsmen, providing good facilities, infrastructure, perquisites and decent training and residing facilities. After that Sports Minister can attend Olympic Games and be on his best behaviour. He better watch, because these are the days of electronic media and indiscretions are exposed within a short time. However, he can take selfies, attend beach parties and have fun, provided he takes care of sportsmen’s needs and the money spent on him, spouse and flunke eys does not become a strain on the taxpayers. Just imagine a Sports Minister and his entourage travelling by Business Class, whereas the sportsmen who have to actually sweat it out travelling over a day by Executive Class.

Any Olympic sport is any day superior to cricket. You just cannot allow wrestlers, boxers, etc. to sleep on the floor and cricketers and the administrators to enjoy like Maharajas or Hollywood filmstars.

  5. Sachin Tendulkar is a cricketer or ex-cricketer who has never participagted in Olympics? Has our government, sports authorities, etc. lost their marbles to appoint this man as Brand Ambassador.

Though, there are many ill-informed or ignorant enthusiasts who do not know or have heard the names of great cricket legends, they sing praises of a man whose test batting average is 53.76, whereas his contempararies like Jacques Kallis and Kumar Sangakkar have superior test batting averages, though they were no specialist batsmen, but all-rounder and wicket-keeper respectively. His supporters may say that he has scored maximum centuries and runs. Well, he has done that because he was playing in a modern era, where plenty of matches are played, plenty of money is at stake, cricketers travel by aircrafts and there are lot of vested interests. Sachin Tendulkar is not Mother Teresa, but an opportunist. If he was a gentleman, he would have blown the whistle and exposed the goings on in that mafia set up of BCCI. But, he too is benefitting and making hay while the sun shines. The man I admire is ex-cricketer, Kirti Azad, who has exposed this mafia set up.

In cricketing history, there are many cricketers who have better averages than Sachin Tendulkar, in spite of having batted under adverse conditions, had to depend on jobs for living and whatever paid to cricketers was just minimal. Those days, there were no sponsorships, free gifts, at one time they used to travel by ship.

    • Mr. Nelson, it looks like you have an axe to grind with Sachin Tendulkar. Well, true, he may not have the best of averages, but then, he has always remained a perfect gentleman – both ON & OFF the pitch.

If at all he has been catapulted to fame, it is because of his tenacity, stupendous records, flair for the game, temperament etc. If he has made cartloads of money, it ain’t his fault. The game is such. Well, why didn’t he become a whistleblower? Hmmm……. I can’t speak for him, you see.
