Chhattisgarh: Two killed after driver loses control, rams car into tree in Durg

Durg: Two men lost their lives in a horrific accident in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district on Thursday, after the driver lost control of the car and hit a road divider before ramming into a tree.

The victims have been identified as Deepak and his friend Kaushik. The young men undertook a car ride in the wee hours of Thursday. While driving from Sector 8 towards Globe Chowk, the car was allegedly travelling at a very high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

According to reports, the speeding car first rammed into the road divider and then crashed into a tree.

Officials said that the impact of the accident was so severe that both Deepak, who was driving the car, and Kaushik, seated beside him, died on the spot.

Local residents alerted the police upon receiving information about the accident. A police team reached the spot and shifted the bodies to Supela Mortuary for post-mortem procedure.

Preliminary information suggests that the victims were drunk at the time of the accident.

In a similar incident reported earlier this month, four members of a family, including two sisters and two young children, died in a road accident on the Durg‑Raipur National Highway‑53 in Chhattisgarh.

Police said five members of the family were travelling on a scooter from Somni in Bhilai‑3 to their maternal uncle’s house in Vasant Vihar, Raipur, when the vehicle rammed into the rear of a stationary tractor loaded with oxygen cylinders.

The deceased were identified as Amrita Nirmalkar (28), her sister Lakshmi Nirmalkar (26), and Amrita’s daughters Yachna (7) and Dali (4). Amrita’s eight‑year‑old son Bhavesh sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Raipur.

The accident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Kumhari police station. The impact was so severe that the two women and two girls died on the spot.

Amrita’s husband, Lokesh Nirmalkar, told police the family had celebrated Yachna’s birthday just two days earlier, on July 14.

He described the loss as devastating, noting that his wife, daughter, son, and sister‑in‑law were all on the scooter at the time of the crash.
