Chikkamagaluru: Vishwa Hindu Parishat’s international working president Praveenbhai Togadia was to address meetings in Madikeri, Mangaluru, Udupi and Karkala between from Jan 18.
However, in view of the communal disturbances that followed his past visits to the coastal districts which were marked by inflammatory speeches, the Mangaluru city police sommissioner had restricted him entering the city.
The order was questioned in the state high court earlier this week. The court upheld the ban on the entry but allowed him to travel direct by road to Sringeri. An undertaking was given that he would not address any meetings anywhere during the visit.
The court not only went to the extent of posing the query as to who would be held responsible should there be any disturbances following his visit, but also ordered that even the recording of any of his speeches should not be played. Besides, the court asked the advocate general to produce Togadia in the high court in case he violated any of the conditions.
After obtaining permissions from the authorities concerned as specified by the court, Togadia arrived in Sringeri under high security late Wednesday night. He visited the Sharadamba temple and also called on Shri Bharati Tirtha Swamiji. They are said to have exchanged views on conservation of cows.
Togadia also addressed an audience in a private hotel auditorium, according to informed sources. Whether this was in keeping with the undertaking given to the high court that no speeched would be delivered is yet to be known.
