Chinchinnim deanery Divine Mercy Seminar held at Velim

Margao: “God is merciful. We need to understand the mercy of God. Don’t be doubtful of God’s merciful love.” Said Fr Simião Fernandes, Director of Pastoral Institute, Old Goa. He was speaking as the resource person for the Chinnchinnim Deanery Divine Mercy Seminar organised by Divine Mercy Movement-based at the Carmelite Monastery Margao in collaboration with St. Francis Xavier’s Church, Velim held at the Velim church. Fr Joege Pazzi Fernandes, Parish Priest of St. Francis Xavier’s Church Velim, welcomed the 222 Divine Mercy Group members of Chinchinnim deanery for a day seminar. Carmelite Priest Fr Fantino Pereira invoked God’s blessings.

Fr Simião elaborated on the Mercy of God in the books of the Old Testament. Taking the help of the scripture passages Fr. Fernandes, highlighted on the different virtues of God like forgiveness, promises, freedom from the exodus generosity, building relationships etc. which speaks of Gods mercy. He appealed the Divine Mercy group members to know the Word of God, reflect and experience to witness him. He also explained the different facets of God’s Merciful love. Br. Malvino Alfonso OCD, Coordinator of the Divine Mercy Movement, reflected on the Works of Mercy taking the help of the word of God. He gave practical guidelines to implement them. Clarifying the different aspects of Divine Mercy devotion, he requested the members to use the official term Divine Mercy Sunday which is also second Sunday of Easter.

Fr Archibald Gonsalves, speaking in the afternoon session on Servant leadership, highlighted the different types of Leadership. Asked the members to imbibe the virtue of simplicity and humility to accept the servant leadership in the church.

Presiding over the Eucharistic celebration in the evening, Fr George Ratos, Dean of Chinchinnim deanery stressed on experiencing God’s mercy and witnessing Jesus to others in need. He expressed happiness over the participation in large numbers and requested them to continue their good work in their respective parishes. Querobina Furtado, Animator of Chinchinnim Parish Group and Alzira Fernandes of Nuem Chapel Group expressed their sentiments.
