CHTU Fire Incident: MRPL Announces Support for Bereaved Family

Mangaluru: The management of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has expressed profound grief over the loss of Shri Manish Karkada in the unfortunate incident that occurred on September 30, 2026, at MRPL’s Coker Hydrotreater Unit (CHTU).

MRPL extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and his near and dear ones, stating that the company stands in solidarity with the family during this difficult time.

While acknowledging that no financial assistance can compensate for the loss of a precious life, MRPL has decided to extend financial support of Rs 90Lakh lakh to the family of the deceased.

In addition, the family will be eligible for benefits of approximately Rs 10 lakh under the Group Term Life Insurance (GTLI) and Rs 20 lakh under the Workmen Compensation Policy (WCP), taking the overall financial support and insurance benefits to approximately Rs 1.20 crore.

Regarding Mediclaim insurance for the secondary workforce, MRPL said that a proposal is being drafted and is currently under discussion. The proposal will be finalised after discussions with the Hon’ble Member of Parliament for Dakshina Kannada and the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

MRPL expects the process relating to the proposed Mediclaim arrangement to be completed within approximately four weeks.
MRPL reiterated its commitment to the safety, health and welfare of all personnel associated with its operations and said it would continue to extend all possible support to the affected family.
