City’s Mall Settles Tax Arrears of Rs 1.64 Crore in a Day!

Mangaluru: A shopping mall in the city, whose name is not immediately available, is said to have settled its tax arrears to the tune of Rs 1.64 crore owed to the Mangaluru City Corporation in a single day, on Monday, July 18.

On July 16, a notice had been served on the management of the mall that any further failure to pay the outstanding amount could lead to a raid by the MCC. The warning appeared to have worked only on Monday.

On July 18, a team from the civic boy, led by health, education and social justice chairperson Kavita Sanil raided a few shops around the central market for non-payment of taxes. As the news spread, the mall management appears to have realized that they could be the next in the firing line.

The amount of arrears was immediately sent to the MCC. This is said to be the largest-ever amount paid in tax in a lump-sum so far, said sources at the civic body.
