Closing Ceremony of Solar Lights Project in Amasebailu to be Held on June 9

Udupi: “The closing ceremony of the implementation of the Solar Lights project in Amasebailu will be held in the Amasebail High School at 10am on June 9, 2019”, said President of Amasebailu Charitable Trust A G Kodgi in a press meet held at the Press Club, Udupi here, on June 6.

Addressing the mediapersons Kodgi said that the process of installing solar lamps in all houses within the Amasebailu Gram Panchayat has been completed and, due to this, Amasebailu Gram Panchayat is the first ‘Solar Gram Panchayat’ in the Udupi district.

It was a joint effort by the Amasebailu Charitable Trust, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, Karnataka Bank Ltd Mangaluru, Amasebail Grama Panchayat, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), District Administration Udupi, and SELCO Solar Light Pvt Ltd. The successful implementation of the Amasebail Solar Village Project has made quite a name for itself in the solar field. This was inaugurated by Magsaysay Awardee Dr H Harish Hande (Chairman, SELCO Solar Light Pvt Ltd in Bengaluru) on April 27, 2017.

The trust had chalked out plans to install solar lamps in all households by 2012 itself. But due to various reasons, the project was delayed. The installation of solar lamps started in May 2019 and India Pvt. Ltd was entrusted with the responsibility of installing the lamps. According to the conditions agreed upon in the tender, the company gave a five-year guarantee for the solar lamps including a half-yearly maintenance warranty and a provision to replace faulty lamps.

The cost for installing two solar lamps was Rs 9,900, while it cost Rs 16,000 for four lamps. The beneficiaries had to pay Rs 3,000 for two lamps, while it cost Rs 6,000 for four solar lamps.

A total of 1,643 houses were equipped with decentralized solar lighting systems and 27 solar street lighting systems. This project was implemented in 3 phases, starting from May 2016 to March 2017.

The closing ceremony will be presided over by Mahabaleshwara Bhat (Managing Director and CEO Karnataka Bank Ltd). The programme will be held after the blessings of Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji and will be inaugurated by Dr D Veerendra Heggade Dharmadhikari (Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala). Dr H Harish Hande will deliver the key note address. Kota Srinivas Poojary – the leader of opposition in the Legislative Council – and Hepsiba Rani Korlapaty (DC of Udupi) will also be present at the event. Along with these dignitaries, many other prominent personalities from various institutions, Banks & Co operative societies, senior officers and representatives, MP and MLAs, Zilla Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat and Grama Panchayat Presidents, and officials will also be part of this event.

Amasebailu Gram Panchayat President Jayalaxmi Shetty, PDI Sathish Nayak, and SELCO Area Head Guruprakash were also present at the press meet.
