Coastal Security Police Udupi organize ‘International Coastal Cleanup’ drive

Udupi: The Coastal Security Police Udupi organised the coastal cleanup drive as part of the International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, September 21.

The drive was held under the aegis of the Coast Guard Mangaluru and Udupi City Municipal Council at the Malpe Beach. Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district inaugurated the International Coastal Coastal Security Police Udupi organize ‘International Coastal Cleanup’ drive

In his message, Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesh said that if the beaches are clean they will attract tourists in large numbers which will help in promoting tourism. Once, tourism is developed, the economic situation of the locals will improve. It is our responsibility to keep the beaches clean, he said.

In his presidential address, Chethan SP Coastal Security Police said that, if the seashore is clean then the sea also becomes clean. With a clean seashore we can control pollution. Human beings have a big role to play in ensuring a garbage-free ocean, he said.

“One major source of such trash in the ocean is garbage that washes off the beach and into the ocean, where it can choke or entangle marine life,” he explained and also appealed to the participants to pledge to keep the ocean clean.

Pradeep Kumar Shaha deputy commandant of Coast Guard, Anand Kaollolikar Commissioner CMC Udupi, Laxmi Manjunath Councillor Udupi CMC, Kumarchandra ASP Udupi and others were present.

Coastal Security Police, Students from Milagres College, Poorna Prajna evening College, Govt Pre-University College Malpe, G Shanker Pre-University College Kidiyoor, Bharath Scouts and Guides participated in the cleanliness drive.

Pramod Kumar DSP Coastal Security Police welcomed the gathering, CPI Raghavendra Kandike delivered the vote of thanks. PSI Manmohan Rao compered the programme.
