Compare last 55 years with our 55 months: Modi in AP

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked people of Arunachal Pradesh to compare Congress’ 55 years with the works done in NDA’s 55 months at the Centre.

“We have shown how committed we are for development in the Northeast. Compare the last 55 years with the works in our 55 months, the picture will be clear. We have sanctioned funds of Rs. 44,000 crore to Arunachal Pradesh so far, which is double of the last government. Arunachal has huge potential to generate power but still nothing much was done the way it should have been. Despite being a strategically important state, youths in Arunachal were not given importance nor were the jawans, who are guarding our borders,” Modi said, soon after laying the foundation of a greenfield airport at Hollongi near Itanagar.

“We will make sure that the airport is completed within the targetted time. I have laid the foundations stone and it will inaugurate it,” Modi said, displaying his confidence to retain power at the Centre.

Modi also laid inaugurated a hydel power project, laid the foundation of a tunnel to improve connectivity between Balipara in Assam with Tawang, near China border in Arunachal Pradesh and at least 50 wellness centres under the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Modi, who reached here on Friday evening was welcomed with black flags by members of organisations opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.  The protesters also waved black flags on Saturday morning, when Modi was on his way to LGBI airport in Guwahati from Raj Bhavan, here.

The Northeast is up against the bill as it seeks to allow “persecuted minorities” from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to apply for Indian citizenship after a stay of six years Modi will lay the foundation stone of AIIMS at Changsari and a bridge over the Brahmaputra between Guwahati and North Guwahati at Changsari, and a bridge over the Brahmaputra between Guwahati and North Guwahati at Changsari, about 20km west of the city. Modi will then go to Agartala in Tripura to inaugurate a railway project and a structure of Indian Institute of Information Technology.
