Cops Rescue Young Kerala Lady Locked Up for a Year by Her Mother in a Rented Home in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Speaking to media persons, Uma Prashant, DCP (Crime and Traffic) had said, ” A 24-year-old Kerala woman allegedly locked up in a house by her mother for a year was rescued by police five days ago from a rented house in Barke-Mangaluru and has been shifted to a rehabilitation centre now. Her mother has been booked for forceful detention. The mother allegedly confined her to a room after she learnt of her friendship with a man from another community.”

It is learnt that the 24-year-old victim from Thrissur-Kerala had released a video from an undisclosed location in Mangaluru two months ago, explaining how she was subjected to torture by right-wing men. In the video, widely circulated on social media and aired by a Malayalam channel on Saturday, the woman alleged RSS and BJP workers were harassing her and she was illegally detained in a BJP leader’s house.

In the video, the woman says that she was taken to Kochi’s Amrita Hospital for psychiatric assessment and lodged in an RSS orphanage for two months. She further says in that video, “My relatives are spreading lies about me. I was beaten up. Some BJP workers brought me here (Mangaluru) against my wish. I need help. They won’t let me live if they get to know I’ve used a cellphone,” .

In the meantime, the woman’s boyfriend has admitted that they were in a relationship for two years, and knew each other for eight years. He further said that his girlfriend’s father died a few years ago, and when her mother learnt about their relationship, she thrashed her and shifted her to a hospital in Kochi. “For nearly two months we had no communication, until recently when she called me up from a mobile. She had also sent me a video which I passed on to the media, and also sent a copy of the video to police and the Kerala CM’s private secretary,” had said her boyfriend.
