CP Dr Harsha Inaugurates World Heart Day ‘Be A Heart Hero’ at KMC

Mangaluru: To mark the world heart day, KMC Hospital Jyothi held a special programme with the theme “Be A Heart Hero” at KMC Hospital Jyothi here on September 29.

Dr Padmanabh Kamath, Interventional Cardiologist KMC Mangaluru welcomed the gathering and briefed on the celebrations. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Padmanabh said that this year we want to celebrate the world heart day in a more meaningful way and more patient-centric. We have decided to celebrate this day with the screening of high-risk individuals. When it was decided to celebrate the world heart day I thought of inviting a few individuals who should come as Heart Heroes because this year the theme of the World Heart Day is “Heart Heroes”. For me all are heroes but we decided to invite key leaders in the society. Dr Harsha who is a doctor by profession and is now serving as the Police commissioner of Mangaluru city. He has started “My beat my pride” and through this initiative, he has done a lot of good work. He has initiated a number of innovative ideas in Mangaluru and we are proud to have Dr Harsha as our Chief Guest. I welcome all the Heart Heroes for this programme.”

The Commissioner of Police Dr Harsha inaugurated the World Heart Day with the theme “Be A Heart Hero” by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.

Pro Vice Chancellor of Manipal University Mangaluru campus, Dr Surendra Shetty speaking on the occasion said, “For the last many years we had celebrated the World Heart Day in a big way but this time Dr Padmanabh suggested to celebrate it in a unique way. Prevention is better than cure is very apt in medical and health care. Today we see a number of people encountering health problems suddenly and abruptly. Treating health problems and Hospitalization has become very expensive. Awareness programmes like these will help people to take care of their health. Nowadays people have too much stress which is a killer. Whenever any health problem arises, we rush to the hospital for examination. KMC is always in the forefront in organizing such programmes. When a patient cannot come to the hospital, the doctors should go to the patient and treat them. We are helping the poor patients and the general public, KMC is always at your service”.

Addressing the gathering Dr Harsha said, “It is an honour and privilege for me to be part of this programme. Today everyone has work pressure and have stress in their life. Although we take treatment, every single day we are vulnerable to a number of health issues. The most we suffer in today’s society is our emotions and family relations. If we are cursing someone or shouting at the top of our voice, it is to our family members. When we go home after work and if the wife has not prepared a good meal, we shout at her because wives are the easy victims. We have so much work pressure, our relationship suffers. Dr Padmanabh has taken the initiative to celebrate World Heart Day in a unique way because doctors are next to God. I am extremely thankful to each one of the Cardiologists and doctors. If there is a hope for the society then it is with the doctors’ community.”

Dr Harsha further said, “I would like to share a couple of facts the doctors face nowadays. There is a trend that people don’t understand the context and some unconnected organizations that are nowhere related to the patients come and create problems for the doctors and the institutions that are doing a noble job to the society. In the future, I have assured them of all help. I have also informed the institutions to educate the patients by informing of all the charges, treatment, estimation of a particular treatment and take the consent of the patients’ party so that we can avoid such problems. The mass screening will help to diagnose hypertension or cardiac disease so that we can make society healthier. Let this programme and screening help a lot of people, let it spread awareness about the cardiac disease”.

Dr Sindhu Prasad read out the winners names of E-poster competitions. Dr Harsha distributed the prizes to the winners.

The winners are:

Melita – 1st place
