CPCRI Employee Waves Red Cloth, Prevents Train Disaster in Kasaragod

Kasaragod: Muhammed, working on a temporary contract for the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) here, showed a remarkable presence of mind and prevented a major railway disaster after spotting a crack in the track on Apr 19.

As he was walking by the side of the railway track near Chowki leading his two children to the madrasa, he saw that the track had developed a crack. He was aware that some train or other was to pass over the track around that time.

He immediately ran home, brought a red cloth and kept running over the track waving it.
After covering a distance of about 2 km, he saw the Maveli Express arriving from Thiruvananthapuram on its way to Mangaluru.

The train driver too noticed him and brought it to a screeching halt. The technical staff soon arrived and repaired the breach. The train continued its journey after about half an hour.

Muhammed was complimented by the railway staff and the locals for his presence of mind.
