Delhi Police recover 2,400 lost, stolen mobile phones worth over Rs 2.5 crores under Operation Vishwas

New Delhi: Delhi Police has recovered 2,400 lost and stolen mobile phones worth more than Rs 2.5 crores during first six months of the year under its citizen-centric initiative – ‘Operation Vishwas’, aimed at strengthening public trust and improving grievance redressal through the use of modern technology.

According to Delhi Police, 1,790 mobile phones were recovered between April 1 and June 30, 2026. Overall, the police successfully traced and recovered a total of 2,400 lost or stolen mobile phones from January 1 to June 30, all of which have either been returned or are in the process of being restored to their rightful owners.

Operation Vishwas is a dedicated initiative of Delhi Police focused on tracing and returning lost, stolen, or misplaced mobile phones through technical surveillance, digital tracking, field verification, and coordinated investigations. The initiative has helped provide timely relief to citizens while reinforcing confidence in the police force.

The operation was led by anti snatching cell of the South-West District.

Through intensive technical analysis, digital tracking, field verification, and continuous follow-up, the police successfully recovered 1,790 mobile phones during the April-June quarter. Following the recovery, police station-level Mobile Phone Handover Programmes were organised across the district, during which nearly 1,900 recovered mobile phones were handed over to their rightful owners.

People who received their lost or stolen mobile phones expressed relief and appreciation of police’s efforts.

According to official figures, of the total 2,400 mobile phones recovered between January and June 2026, the Anti Snatching Cell alone recovered 1,236 devices, while police station teams recovered the remaining 1,164 phones. The cumulative estimated value of the recovered mobile phones exceeds Rs 2.5 crore.

Delhi Police said the success of Operation Vishwas reflects its commitment to citizen welfare, transparent policing, and efficient public service delivery. By leveraging advanced technology, technical surveillance tools, digital tracking platforms, and dedicated investigative efforts, the South-West District Police has been able to significantly improve the recovery rate of lost and stolen mobile phones.

The police added that efforts are continuing to trace and recover more missing mobile phones and ensure that they are returned to their rightful owners at the earliest. Officials said the initiative will continue to focus on strengthening public confidence while delivering prompt and effective police services to the residents of the national capital.
