Destiny landed me lead role in ‘Majnu’: Priyashri

Chennai, Sep 15 (IANS) Actress Priyashri, who is making her acting debut with Nani-starrer Telugu romantic drama “Majnu”, says destiny helped her clinch her first big break in tinsel world when she was least expecting it.

“I had come to Hyderabad for an ad shoot, and a casting director made me meet ‘Majnu’ director Virinchi (Varma). I wasn’t even told for which film I was going to meet him and nor did I know who is going to play the lead. We generally met, spoke casually and I went back to Mumbai,” Priyashri told IANS.

Three months later, she received a call out of the blue.

“I was least expecting a call. When I went this time, I was narrated the story and was subsequently signed on. I think it was destiny that landed me the offer. I must have woken up on the right side of the bed that day,” she quipped.

In the film, she plays Suma, a lively, bubbly, talkative contemporary girl who celebrates every moment of life like a festival.

“The character is the exact photocopy version of my real self. Perhaps that’s what must have impressed the director,” she said, heaping praise on her co-star Nani.

Priyashri says Nani completely justifies the title ‘natural star’.

“When it comes to acting, he is effortless and is always at ease in front of the camera. He is so focused that he keenly observes the continuity in shots. Even if a vase is missing in a scene, he would know it immediately,” she said, adding that he’d also make a great director.

“You would be amazed by his ability to brief scenes. Whenever I had difficulty with a particular scene, he would aptly brief it in a way I could understand easily. He also creates very comfortable working space for his co-stars,” she added.

Priyashri fell in love with the language (Telugu). So much so that, even after going back to Mumbai, she found herself conversing in Telugu on several occasions.

“I need to thank my team, especially the assistant directors who helped me with the language. I can’t wait to go back to Hyderabad and start promotions. I want to speak in Telugu as much as possible,” she said, clarifying she hasn’t yet signed any new project.

“Majnu”, which also stars Anu Emmanuel, is slated for September 23 release.
