Differences between leaders of Udupi Dist BJP Exposed during Nalin’s programme

Udupi: The differences between the leaders of Udupi district was exposed during the first visit of Bharatiya Janata Party state president Nalin Kumar Kateel.

On Tuesday, September 10 afternoon, the Udupi district BJP organized felicitation programme at Hotel Kidiyoor Auditorium. Despite strict warning from the top BJP leaders that everyone needs to attend the function, however, Haladi Srinivas Shetty MLA of Kundapur and B M Sukumar Shetty MLA of Byndoor didn’t show up. Interestingly, the BJP leaders had specially reserved a chair on the dais for Haladi Srinivas Shetty till the end of the programme, but all in vain.

Halady Srinivas Shetty, five-time Kundapur MLA, who failed to get a Ministerial berth had recently shown his dissatisfaction on the party recently. In 2012, Halady Srinivas Shetty was informed that he had been selected for a Ministerial berth in the Jagadish Shettar government and he went to Bengaluru only to learn at the last minute that the party had chosen Kota Srinivas Poojary over him.

Shetty then resigned from the BJP for what he deemed an insult and contested as an Independent candidate and won from Kundapur Assembly constituency in the 2013 Assembly elections with the highest margin in Udupi district. He, however, returned to the BJP before the 2018 Assembly elections and retained the seat with the highest margin in the district.

In the 2019 parliamentary elections, it was the Kundapur Assembly constituency, which provided the highest lead for the BJP in the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru parliamentary constituency. Meantime State President Nalin Kumar Kateel was also reluctant to speak to the media persons who were waiting outside the programme venue.
