Doctors Victorious: Obtain stay from high court against Renewal of Registration by KMC

Mangaluru: KMC had posted notices in newspapers demanding the renewal of the permanent registration of MBBS by paying fees of 1000/-making it a renewal for every five years.

The team of doctors led by Dr B S Kakkilaya from Mangalore and Dr Yogananda Reddy initially studied the legality of the issue noticed no proper Legislature amendment of Karnataka Medical Registration act 1963.

Hence this led to a huge WhatsApp awareness movement initiated from Mangalore, which led to a total boycott of renewal by statewide doctors.

When KMC failed to come to the negotiation with the IMA-KSB and started issuing show cause notice to doctors for uniting, doctors joined hands to take legal recourse.

Two writ petitions were filed in the High Court of Karnataka on 29 Dec 2016, the court upheld the doctors stand, advising KMC not to delete doctors names from the Karnataka Medical Register.

This is a resounding success story of Whatsapp, social media particularly lead by Mangalore doctors with active participation of the Association of Medical Consultants (AMC) Mangalore which supported Dr Kakkilaya and Dr Reddy in achieving a historic win for the doctors.
