Dr. H. Prabhakar Elected National Vice President of Indian College of Cardiology

Mangaluru: Dr. H. Prabhakar, a distinguished interventional cardiologist and pioneer in the field, has been elected National Vice President of the prestigious Indian College of Cardiology at its National Meet held in Kochi on September 12, 2026.

The recognition reflects his contributions to the advancement of cardiology and his dedicated service to the medical community.

Dr. Prabhakar has played a pioneering role in establishing and advancing interventional cardiology across Coastal Karnataka, Malnad Karnataka, and North Kerala. He was among the first interventional cardiologists in the region to introduce and perform advanced procedures such as coronary angioplasty, device closure of congenital heart defects, valvuloplasty, and several other complex interventional cardiac procedures.

For the past 25 years, he has headed the Department of Cardiology as Chief Interventional Cardiologist at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru. During his career, he has been associated with thousands of cardiac procedures in the region. His expertise and commitment have contributed to expanding access to advanced cardiac care for patients across Karnataka.

Dr. Prabhakar has also been honoured with the State Aryabhata Award and the State Health Leadership Award.

He holds the distinction of being the first cardiologist to organise an international cardiology conference in Mangaluru, thereby placing the city on the national and international cardiology map. He has actively contributed to the academic advancement of cardiology and has been instrumental in organising numerous national- and state-level cardiology conferences and academic programmes in Mangaluru.
His professional leadership extends beyond clinical practice. He has served as Vice-President of the Karnataka Chapter of the Cardiological Society of India and as President of the Mangaluru Association of Physicians of India. He has also served the Indian College of Cardiology in various positions for the past 15 years.

Through these leadership roles, Dr. Prabhakar has contributed significantly to professional development, medical education, and the promotion of cardiovascular care.

His election as National Vice President of the Indian College of Cardiology recognises his 25 years of clinical experience, pioneering contributions to interventional cardiology, academic leadership, and service to the medical community. He will serve a one-year term.
