Election staff seize Rs 10L cash in Shivamogga, illegal liquor in Bidar

Bengaluru:  A team of electoral officials seized Rs 10 lakh during an inspection of vehicles at the check post set up at Attibailu village at Shikaripur taluk of Shivamogga district on Tuesday.

The team found cash in the car belonging to Kotreshappa, a resident of Malavalli village in Shikaripur taluk. Kotreshappa told officials that he was a cotton trader and had collected the cash after presenting a cheque at the Axis bank, Shivamogga.

He said he was ferrying the cash to Hirekerur, Haveri district, and presented a photocopy of the cheque to the electoral staff. The officials have handed over the cash to the Income Tax officials. Investigation is on.

Electoral officials seized illegal liquor being transported in a container near Molakera village on the national highway in Humnabad taluk, Bidar district.

The officials have seized the container valued at Rs 20 lakh, going towards Hyderabad from Mumbai, and 423 liquor boxes containing 27 varieties of liquor valued at Rs 55 lakh from the accused Mukesh Kumar Kanaji Ansari.
