Mangaluru: Christmas- It’s All About Giving And Sharing! In his message last Christmas, Pope Francis said, “God is light and in him, there is no darkness at all. If we love God and our brothers and sisters, we walk in the light. But if our heart is closed, if we are dominated by pride, deceit, self-seeking, then darkness falls within us, and around us. Whoever hates his brother — writes the Apostle John — is in the darkness; he walks in the darkness and does not know the way to go, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. Give and you shall receive, so give generously- Love and care for the needy, you will all be truly blessed ”

While recalling the words of Pope Francis, “We celebrate Christmas by extending a helping hand to all those who suffer due to poverty. The concern of every religion and every community is to eradicate poverty. Every person, especially the poor in the society deserves respect and dignity. Jesus had great love and concern for the poor, it is also mentioned in the Bible that the poor, sick and marginalized are very close to Jesus. Christmas celebration has meaning when we love the poor. Faithful should respect every person especially the poor and treat them equally and not discriminate them. Christmas celebration should inspire and motivate all to work for the poor.

“We are the world. We are the children. We are the ones who make a brighter day. We’re all part of God’s great big family. And the truth is that love is all we need. So let’s start giving, for it’s true, we’ll make a better day. Just you and me.” – These thought-provoking lyrics by the late pop-star Michael Jackson are quite fitting during this time of the year. Yes, “Christmas is all about giving.” I totally endorse the truth about this statement. Giving is an act of love. The joy of being able to bless and give someone you care, and to make them smile, is priceless.

Christmas season is the perfect time to open your heart and wallet to give back. The satisfaction that comes from making a difference in the lives of others cannot be overstated. Knowing that you have helped make someone else’s Christmas a little bit brighter is a special feeling, and one that will last, with you even after the holidays are over. And for that matter, Father Muller Medical College Hospital of FMCI has come forward to help the suffering humanity with awesome discounts of health check-Up as a Christmas and New Year Gifts, which is worth appreciating.

MESSAGE FROM Fr RICHARD ALOYSIUS COELHO-Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions:

by Alfie D’Souza Team Mangalorean

Christmas season is the perfect time to share joy and peace among people. While our hospital celebrates 139 years of existence, the loyalty that inspires in providing care is a strength which helps to carry on the vision, “Heal and Comfort the suffering humanity with compassion and respect”. As our ministry theme is “Love and Serve the faithful after the example of Christ”, this is a great opportunity to serve the mankind with preventive and promotive health care at the doorsteps of the community. Rejoicing the coming of Jesus, we at FMCI would like to share the spirit of Christmas among people of different faith, and everyone is always welcomed at our hospital irrespective of caste and creed. And while we celebrate the Birth of Jesus Christ we would like to offer huge discount and a month-long offer so as celebrate Christmas and also to ring in the coming New Year 2020 with “Pink of Health”.
The year 1880 was a sunrise year for the coastal town of Mangaluru. Fr Augustus Keith Muller landed on the shores of Mangaluru with a prescription of heal and comfort, love and care for the suffering humanity. When he started dispensing medicine under a banyan tree, it was just a simple and noble thought – one human being thinking good about another. Since 1880, this very noble thought has been carried down with unwavering dedication. The mission of heal and comfort was time and again attuned to the challenges of the day. Since its inception, Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) has bee one of the oldest and most established teaching hospital networks in Mangaluru.

MCI exists to serve the needs of the poor, marginalized, and otherwise disadvantaged people of Karnataka and northern Kerala and provides healthcare services to those in need regardless of religion, caste, gender or ethnicity. Over 70 percent of these services offered either free of charge or heavily subsided. FMCI also conducts “health camps” in Mangaluru’s surrounding communities who are unable to travel or cannot afford traditional clinic-based medical care.

We consider Patient Care is to be achieved by collaboration with those who care for the patient, both in the College and the Community where he lives, adopting a holistic approach founded on Scientific and Research findings. We promote education of the highest quality in the Art and Science of Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences and other related professions instilling Human, Ethical, Spiritual and Christian values. We look for excellence not only in professional skills but also in attitude and character in everyone, upholding respect for life, dignity of the human person and a genuine feeling of compassion for patients, their attendants and families.

The key objective of FMCI has been to provide complete and comprehensive health care with state-of-the-art facilities to patients who come here. Young doctors and nurses receive this message of compassionate care during their medical and nursing education here. At FMCI, we believe a lack of basic health and medical care is a consequence of extreme poverty. Indeed, extreme poverty is society’s moral failing. Hence modern and advanced societies have a moral obligation to provide the less fortunate with basic medical care and cures. FMCI also believes that by fulfilling this need we enhance human dignity and offer hope to the needy.

FMCI is known to the public primarily as a research and teaching hospital with programs that help the poor throughout Mangaluru and the surrounding region. What is not immediately evident is that these programs to the poor are an integral part of our services. By placing the rural poor at the centre of our service, FMCI is able to: provide services to those who need it most; provide exposure and experience to medical students; Support the Catholic church’s outreach to the poor in the community; and, help FMCI acquire data and knowledge about the community that can support the growth of healthcare infrastructure. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy & Prosperous New Year 2020. And Enjoy a healthy Christmas and 2020 with the Father Muller’s Health Check-Up plans at 20% discounts”
