For all these participants, this is their first-time experience, so a few of them were nervous during the audition interview, while others fared well. But everyone was happy and thrilled that for the First time that they got a chance to participate in a Beauty Pageant, which was earlier a Woman Event.
Speaking to Team Mangalorean , Charan Suvarna-Mangaluru ( partner of fashion ABCD, and a experienced person in handling fashion shows, beauty pageants and other Film-related events); Ms Sharal Manoraj-Mangaluru (has been in fashion Industry for a year, and has done three beauty pageant auditions in the past, and currently is in the grooming team of Fashion ABCD-Bengaluru/Mangaluru-prior to which she had worked as HR person for Accenture, Bengaluru); and Ms Alisha Rego, Mangaluru (a professional Make-Up artist, Bridal Make-Up artist, who is a freelancer in this field, and travels all over India for this job has been a judge for various Fashion/beauty Pageants events at local Dental Colleges) said, “Seems like everyone that we interviewed today had Passion, Determination and Intention to come up in their lives and show the world that being a Transgender they too can fare better than the original (woman)”.
“We judge them not more on how they look, but according to their capabilities of Communicating, Performance and Respect. We want to select the best based on their qualities and talents and make them a respectful person in society so that they can move around freely just like other human beings. The questions we prefer to ask them are- Why are they here for the beauty pageant? What made them enter the beauty pageant? What would be their contribution to the society if they win in the pageant? and many such queries. Quite a few participants that we interviewed/auditioned fared well, except for a few who were nervous, which is normal for a first timer, otherwise everyone did good interacting with all the three of us,” said the three audition members.
Also speaking to Team Mangalorean, participant Zoya Sheik from Gulbarga said, “Even though this was my first time entering such a pageant and also facing the pageant interviewers for the first time, I think I did well, and have a feeling that with strong determination and firm will I could bag the Crown, and show the world that as a Transgender I too can be a Transqueen. I extremely thank Parivarthan Charitable Trust for providing me a platform to show my hidden talents- and if I win the title I will see that I take the Transgenders identity to greater heights, and see that we too get respect and love just like other regular persons”.
Arundhati from Mandya speaking said, “This is my first time taking part in such a beauty pageant, and I feel great that we got a chance to highlight our talents through Parivarthan Charitable Trust, for which I’m very grateful. I wasn’t nervous facing the three interviewers during the audition, and I fared well, I suppose. Hope I will get a chance to walk the ramp in the finals, and win the coveted title, and be an example representing Transgenders and show the society that Transgenders too can achieve and succeed if there is support and encouragement from others. I want to make others know that we too are human beings and that we too need love and respect like others”.
Sanjana from Mangaluru, who was the First Transgender to be the Brand ambassador for the 7th Senior National Level Lagori Tournament held in 2017 in Mangaluru said, “Having this beauty pageant for Transgenders was my idea, and I put forward it to Parivarthan Trust, and it was readily approved, and I feel proud of it, that we as Transgenders also got a chance to unleash our hidden talents on the ramp and stage, and where we could prove that we too have the potential and strength like the others. We want to highlight ourselves in the society that we too also need love and respect from others, even though we have faced lots of hassles and hardship in our lives all these years. We want to stop begging, and other non-respectable activities. We are all looking for a change in our lives and in our lifestyle, and through this Beauty pageant, if I win the title I want to be a role model to every transgender here in Mangaluru and elsewhere, that we too as Transgenders can make a difference in the society, because where there is a Will there is a way”.
