Father Muller Commissions Karnataka’s First Top-End Shimadzu Trinias C12s Digital Angiography System
-New-generation Cath Lab strengthens advanced cardiac care at Father Muller Medical College Hospital
Mangaluru: Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH) has taken another step towards strengthening advanced cardiac care with the blessing and commissioning of the Shimadzu Trinias C12s Digital Angiography System at Cath Lab 2, ICCU Wing, Minus One, General Ward Block.
Featuring the new Opera operating software/platform, the state-of-the-art system is the first installation of Shimadzu’s Trinias C12s in Karnataka and is the top-end model in its range. The advanced digital angiography system is expected to enhance the precision, efficiency and capabilities of the Department of Cardiology in performing complex diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
The system was blessed by Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), in the presence of Dr. Pradeep Pereira, Head of the Department of Cardiology, FMMCH, along with senior administrators, medical faculty, nursing personnel, technicians and staff.
Department of Cardiology: A Journey of Service
Giving an overview of the Department of Cardiology, Dr. Pradeep Pereira traced its journey to 2002, when Dr. Prabhakar, now Chief Cardiologist, joined Father Muller Medical College Hospital. He was followed by Dr. Yusuf and Dr. Usha, who holds the distinction of being the first female cardiologist in Karnataka. Dr. Pradeep joined the department in 2015, followed by Dr. Jostal Pinto and Dr Ashoka.
From its modest beginnings, the department has expanded its services and capabilities to meet the growing needs of patients. It now performs more than 250 angiograms every month and is looking to further expand its services with the proposed introduction of Electrophysiology and Paediatric Cardiology.
‘Faith and Confidence in the Department’
Dr. Prabhakar, Chief Cardiologist, expressed gratitude to the successive Directors of Father Muller for their support, recalling the contributions of Rev. Fr. Baptist Menezes, Rev. Fr. Patrick Rodrigues, Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho and the present Director, Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo.
He said the institution’s leadership had consistently placed its faith and confidence in the Department of Cardiology and supported its efforts to acquire advanced equipment and strengthen its services.
He also expressed appreciation for the institutional vision that has enabled the department to develop into a centre handling a substantial cardiac caseload and providing advanced cardiac care to patients from the region.
Rev. Fr. George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator, FMMCH, congratulated the Department of Cardiology on the new addition and commended its commitment to providing the best possible care to patients. He stressed the importance of ensuring that every facility and piece of equipment introduced at the hospital is used effectively for the benefit of patients.
‘The Poor Too Deserve the Best’
Addressing the gathering, Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director, FMCI, highlighted the healthcare philosophy of the institution: “The poor too deserve the best of treatment.”
He said this philosophy is reflected in Father Muller Medical College Hospital’s efforts to make advanced healthcare accessible to patients irrespective of their circumstances.
He noted that the institution’s responsibility goes beyond treating an illness, extending to helping patients return to their daily lives in the best possible physical and mental health.
Fr. Faustine emphasised that every service rendered and every new technology acquired by the institution is ultimately intended for the well-being of patients rather than for prestige or display.
He prayed for wisdom and skill for the doctors, nurses, technicians and staff who would operate the new system and expressed hope that it would become an instrument of healing and benefit many patients.
New Patient Elevator Commissioned
The hospital also commissioned a Gen 2 Stream Patient Elevator by OTIS Lifts on the ground floor of the OPD Building as part of its efforts to improve patient convenience and accessibility.
The elevator can accommodate up to 17 persons or three wheelchairs with attendants. It was formally opened for use by Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo in the presence of members of the FMCI Management Committee.
The commissioning of the new Cath Lab system and patient elevator reflects the institution’s continuing efforts to strengthen clinical infrastructure while improving accessibility, convenience and the overall patient experience.
