Father Muller Independence Tournament 2026: PU-Level Intercollegiate Kabaddi and Throwball Tournament
Mangaluru: Father Muller Charitable Institutions successfully organised the Independence Tournament 2026, a PU-level intercollegiate sports tournament featuring Men’s Kabaddi and Women’s Throwball, on August 13 at the Father Muller Indoor Stadium, Mangaluru. 
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from PU colleges across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. More than 16 men’s Kabaddi teams and eight women’s Throwball teams participated in the tournament. All matches were conducted at the Father Muller Indoor Stadium, which provided an excellent air-conditioned indoor sporting facility for the participants.
The programme was effectively compered by Mr Chandrashekhara S. N., Physical Education Director, Father Muller Medical College, who coordinated the proceedings and ensured the smooth conduct of the inauguration, tournament activities, prize distribution and closing ceremony.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the Father Muller Indoor Stadium and was presided over by Rev Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions.
Rev Dr Michael Santhumayor, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College, was the Chief Guest and Organising Secretary.
The dignitaries welcomed the participating teams and appreciated the efforts of Father Muller Charitable Institutions in providing a platform for young students to develop their sporting talents, discipline, teamwork and competitive spirit.
The Women’s Throwball tournament featured a series of exciting and closely contested matches. Govinda Dasa PU College emerged as the champion, while Dr N. S. A. M. PU College secured the second position. Padua PU Collegefinished third, followed by Milagres PU College in fourth place.
In the individual awards, Shrushti Jain of Dr Nitte PU College was named Best Player of the Tournament. Amulya of Govinda Dasa PU College received the Best Server award, while Shanvi Shetty of Govinda Dasa PU College was adjudged Best All-rounder.
The Men’s Kabaddi tournament also witnessed highly competitive matches, with teams displaying excellent skill, strength, teamwork and sportsmanship. Sebastian PU College emerged as the winners, with BEM PU College finishing runners-up. Boscoss PU College secured third place, while Ramakrishna PU College finished fourth.
In the individual Kabaddi awards, Afif of Sebastian PU College was named Best Raider, while Alishan of Sebastian PU College received the Best Catcher award. Ranjith of BEM PU College was adjudged Best All-rounder.
The prize distribution ceremony was held at the Father Muller Indoor Stadium following the completion of the tournament. Trophies, prizes and individual awards were presented by Rev Dr Michael Santhumayor, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College and Organising Chairman. The winners, runners-up and individual award recipients were congratulated for their outstanding performances.
The closing ceremony marked the successful conclusion of the Independence Tournament 2026. The organisers expressed their appreciation to all participating colleges, players, coaches, officials, referees, volunteers and staff members for their cooperation and contribution to the smooth conduct of the tournament.
The tournament provided a valuable opportunity for PU-level students from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to showcase their sporting abilities while developing team spirit, discipline, leadership, confidence and sportsmanship.
