Father Muller Student Renoy Antony Olivera Wins International Science Writing Competition

Mangaluru: Renoy Antony Olivera, a second-year BSc Neuroscience Technology student at Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences (FMCOAHS), Mangaluru, has won an international science writing competition organised by The Antibody Society (TAbS), an international scientific organisation dedicated to advancing antibody research and related fields.

Renoy won the competition for his essay titled “Antibody Tree,” which has been published on the official website of The Antibody Society. The award includes a USD 500 cash prize, marking a significant milestone in his academic journey and recognising his ability to communicate complex scientific concepts effectively.

Renoy has a keen interest in neuroscience, genomics, computational biology and mathematics, with a growing focus on antibody research. His interdisciplinary approach has already earned him recognition, including the Dr. Sanjeev Rai Award for Best Student Researcher, presented by Father Muller Research Centre (FMRC). He has also published a single-author research paper in Neuroinformatics, a Springer Nature journal.

Aspiring to become a scientist, Renoy hopes to integrate diverse disciplines to investigate complex questions that no single field of study can address. His latest achievement highlights his intellectual curiosity, initiative, and commitment to scientific research and communication.

Congratulating Renoy, Dr. Shivashankara A. R., Principal of FMCOAHS, praised his scientific curiosity, dedication, and pursuit of academic excellence. He noted that the achievement underscored the importance of encouraging students to explore beyond the prescribed curriculum, engage with emerging research areas and present their ideas on international platforms.

Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), also congratulated Renoy on bringing international recognition to the institution. He commended the student’s initiative in exploring interdisciplinary scientific fields and highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of research, innovation and intellectual inquiry.

Rev. Dr. Michael Santhumayor, Administrator of FMCOAHS, said Renoy’s success reflected the spirit of inquiry, perseverance and academic excellence nurtured at Father Muller. He emphasised that such achievements inspire students to explore emerging areas of research and share their knowledge with the global scientific community. He wished Renoy continued success in his academic pursuits and interdisciplinary research.

Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences, a constituent institution of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, offers programmes across allied health disciplines, combining academic rigour, practical training and research-oriented learning to prepare students for the evolving needs of healthcare.

Renoy’s achievement highlights the value of interdisciplinary learning, scientific curiosity, and effective communication in advancing research. Father Muller Charitable Institutions congratulated him on the distinction and wished him continued success in his academic and research endeavours.
