Finally! Much Awaited Thokkottu Flyover Inaugurated by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel

Mangaluru: Three-time Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel was all smiles as he officially inaugurated the much-awaited Thokottu flyover in a small ceremony conducted here, on  June 13.

Although the flyover was almost complete by the end of May, the initial inauguration date (June 10) had to be deferred to June 13 due to the unexpected transfer of two NHAI officials.

A tight crowd gathered at the base of the flyover as Nalin Kumar, flanked by a congregation of BJP party workers, cut the ceremonial ribbon and officially declared the flyover open for use.

Addressing the mediapersons Nalin said, “The Thokottu and Pumpwell flyovers, which are a part of the Talapady-Kundapur national highway project, is nearing completion. This work has been going on since the past 4 to 5 years. There were several technical issues concerning the Thokottu flyover. However, after overcoming all the hurdles, the flyover is fully complete today. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari sanctioned a loan of Rs. 55 Crores in March so that the projects can be fast-tracked. That is why it was possible to complete the work.”

Nalin also said, “Even though the flyover is open, we are still trying to further beautify the flyover. Similar to Suratkal and Kuloor flyovers, the beautification of the Thokottu flyover is also being done by us. Today, I am happy that the flyover has been inaugurated. In another couple of days, the Pumpwell flyover will also be ready depending on the current pace of work and the monsoon rain.”

After the inauguration ceremony, Nalin Kumar Kateel walked the entire length of the flyover and offered prayers in a small temple located at the other end of the flyover. The Thokottu – Pumpwell flyover project has been a long-standing contentious issue in the district, with citizens expressing their displeasure at the repeated delays in the completion of the project. However, with today’s inauguration, frustrated commuters may finally be able to breathe easy.
