Fisheries Minister should Resign for Neglecting the Fishermen Missing Issue – Yashpal Suvarna

Udupi: “If the government failed to trace the missing fishermen, then the Fisheries Minster should give resignation to his post immediately. The government should appoint the new minister who has the complete knowledge of fishermen community”, urged Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Fisheries Cooperative Marketing Federation President, Yashpal Suvarna.

Addressing the media persons at Malpe, Suvarna said “Already 30 days have gone by, but still there has been no clue in fishermen gone missing. The state government has totally failed in the search operation. When the Fisheries Minister had come to Udupi we had appealed to him to organize a meeting with Maharastara and Goa ministers and officials. But until now the fisheries minister and his government didn’t kept single meeting with neighboring states. We had demanded that the fisheries minister should stay in Udupi till the investigation process is complete, but the minister just for name sake came to Udupi, had meeting with officials, but with no positive results from the meeting till today”.

“ A person who has knowledge of coastal fishing needs to be a fisheries minister. The state government has totally neglected the coastal fishermen community in last budget. In the same way now the government has neglected the fishermen missing issue. The home minister and fisheries minister should visit Maharashtra and call the meeting within two days. The state government has stated that it has written to ISRO seeking their help in tracing the fishermen. But as per ISRO, it has clarified that it has not received any letter from the government. Seems like the state government is neglecting fishermen’s community totally. The search operations should be stepped up. If they failed to call the meeting with Maharastra government then fisheries minister should tender his resignation to his post and government should appoint a MLA from the Coastal area as fisheries minister”, demanded Yashpal Suvarna.
