Fisherman Murdered at Malpe Fishing Harbour; Accused Arrested

Udupi: Malpe police arrested the accused in connection with the murder of a fisherman following a quarrel aboard a fishing boat at Padukere Dakke in Kodavoor village, under the jurisdiction of Malpe Police Station.

The accused is Govind Raj, a native of Raichur. According to police, he allegedly murdered Abhishek in the early hours of August 25 and fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Police said the altercation between Govind and Abhishek reportedly began on the boat on the night of August 24. The dispute intensified, culminating in the alleged murder in the early hours of the following day.

Acting swiftly on receiving information about the incident, Malpe Police Station Sub-Inspector (Crime and Law and Order) Anil Kumar D., along with Home Guard Adarsh and Police Constable Kuber, launched a search operation to trace the accused.

During the investigation, the police team moved towards Udupi railway station, where they apprehended Govind while he was trying to board a train reportedly bound for Hyderabad or Mumbai. He was immediately taken into custody.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that Govind had been living and working in several places, including Mumbai and Hyderabad, for nearly 15 years without returning to his hometown.

A case has been registered at the Malpe Police Station, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
