Five Get Lifetime Jail Term for 2007 Murder near Padil

Mangaluru: District and sessions judge M G Uma has sentenced five persons for the 2007 murder of Siddappa, then aged 29 years, hailing from Kadlamatti in Bagalkot and working here as a migrant worker.

He lived in Kannur on the outskirts with his wife Kasturi aka Renuka, who was already married. She had deserted her husband and lived here with Siddappa. Soon she got into an illicit relationship with Muhammed Ansar (30) from Balkurgudde in Kannur.

When they found Siddappa to be an obstruction to their liaison, Ansar, under Renuka’s pressure, decided to get rid of him. With the help of his friends Muhammed Naufal (23), Muhammed Saleem (26), Abdul Basheer (29) and Abdul Naushad (32) murdered him on February 6, 2007.

The five of them were accused of burying the body to cover up the crime. Since Renuka used to leave her son at Ansar’s house to be taken care of, she visited there regularly and developed intimacy. Siddappa was annoyed over it and had mentioned the matter in his close circle.

Siddappa had a routine of visiting his native place regularly. But when he did not return for three years, his brother Basappa filed a complaint with the police. When Renuka was interrogated, she revealed the murky story.

After hearing the case, the court has sentenced the five to a life term in jail. Renuka aka Kasturi, who has been absconding since coming out on bail, is yet to traced and prosecuted.
