FMMCH introduces New Advanced Procedure for Bronchial Artery Embolization
Mangaluru: Father Muller Medical College Hospital introduced the newer advanced procedure of Bronchial Artery Embolization. It was done successfully on two patients under Dr Don Masarenhas, Head of the Respiratory Medicine department and by Dr Dileep, Interventional Radiologist. These two patients had massive bleeding in the lungs which could not be controlled by medicine. Bleeding was life-threatening and the patient needed emergency procedure. The patient recovered and is discharged within 3 days of the procedure. This procedure is done in very few centres in India.
Fr Richard Coelho blessed the new PFT-DLCO machine. This machine gives a complete analysis of lung functioning and capacity of an individual as well as helps in the diagnosis of conditions like asthma COPD, ILD, etc. incidence rates are increasing day by day. He also blessed the 26 channel sleep study machine which helps in diagnosis of Obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep-related disorders.
Dr Don Gregory Mascarenhas, Head, Dept of Respiratory Medicine will be principally in-charge of these procedures which are his areas of expertise.
