Food Safety Officials Inspect Cake Units to Prevent Use of Harmful Colours

Mangaluru: Following directions from Health Minister U.T. Khader, a team led by Dr Praveen Kumar C.H., Designated Officer for Food Safety, Dakshina Kannada district, inspected cake and ice cream manufacturing and sales units to check for potentially harmful food colours.

The officials visited the ‘Ribbons and Balloons’ and ‘Hive’ franchise outlets, which procure and sell cakes and ice creams manufactured by cloud kitchens and central cake manufacturing units.

The team conducted special inspections in the Surathkal area, collected samples of the colours used in cake preparation, and sent them to a laboratory for quality testing.

The officials issued a strict warning to the outlet operators against using colours that could be harmful to health merely to make cakes look more attractive.

They also instructed the units to avoid unnecessary and harmful colouring agents in sweets prepared during festive occasions and to strictly adhere to food safety regulations. The officials emphasised the importance of maintaining quality, hygiene and safety standards during food preparation.
