Founder of ‘Cafe Coffee Day’ Siddhartha Goes Missing in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: The founder of India’s largest Coffee chain “Cafe Coffee Day” and also the owner of Asia’s single-largest coffee estate V G Siddhartha, has gone missing since Monday, July 29 evening.

According to reports, Siddhartha got off from his car near a bridge across the Nethravathi River near Mangalore, about 375km from Bengaluru, but did not return even after an hour. A panicked driver went down looking for him, but could not find him anywhere. He then alerted the family members who in turn informed the police.

According to Siddhartha’s driver, they had come from Bengaluru by car, at the Netravathi bridge at around 6:30 pm, Siddhartha asked him to stop the car. After he had stopped the car, Siddhartha got down and walked for some distance. While he got down from the car he received a call on his mobile, speaking on the phone he moved further. Since it was raining at the time he was not able to see Siddhartha. Thinking that Siddhartha would return after some time he waited. At 7:30 pm When Siddhartha did not return, he tried to call and began looking for him, but his mobile was switched off.”

Immediately the driver informed the family members and the family informed the police. When the police got the information that Siddhartha had gone missing, the police launched a search operation for him.

Siddhartha is the son-in-law of former Chief Minister S M Krishna and the founder of “Cafe Coffee Day”. When the news of Siddhartha’s missing spread across the state, his relatives and also some of his staff gathered near the Netravathi bridge and also in front of S M Krishna’s residence.

Siddhartha hails from Chikkmagaluru, he had studied at the St Aloysius College in Mangaluru. Siddhartha rose to fame after he started the “Cafe Coffee day” in 1990.

The district administration has taken all the measures and search is on to trace Siddhartha.
