Fr Denis D’Souza, Senior Priest of Mangalore Diocese Passes Away at 91

Mangaluru: Fr Denis D’Souza, aged 91, of St Zuze Vaz Home, Jeppu, passed away on 16 November 2025. A devoted priest of the Diocese of Mangalore, Fr Denis served the Church with deep faith and unwavering commitment for more than six decades.

Born on 15 February 1935, in Thodambila (earlier Modankap), he was the beloved son of Paul D’Souza and Mary Magdalen Noronha. He was ordained to the priesthood on 4 December 1961, beginning a long and fruitful ministry in the diocese.

Fr Denis rendered pastoral service in several parishes: as Assistant Parish Priest at Shirva, and later as Parish Priest in Pamboor, Bondel, Niddodi, Mukamar, Cascia, Surathkal, and Sampige. Following his retirement in 2010, he resided at the Bishop’s House and subsequently at St Zuze Vaz Home, Jeppu.

The Funeral Mass and Burial Rites will be celebrated on Monday, 17 November 2025, at 10.00 a.m. in St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia.

The Diocese of Mangalore gratefully remembers Fr Denis for his simplicity, pastoral zeal, and faithful priestly witness. We commend him to the Lord with the prayer: “May he rest in the peace of Christ.”

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his brother, Fr Valerian D’Souza, and to all members of the bereaved family.
