Free Medical Camp Provides Comprehensive Healthcare to 137 Beneficiaries in Jeppu

Mangaluru – A comprehensive Free Medical Camp, organized by St. Joseph Church, Jeppu, Catholic Sabha, Jeppu, ICYM, and the Health Commission, Jeppu, in collaboration with KMC Hospital, Attavar, KMC Hospital, Ambedkar Circle, Mangaluru, and Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru, provided essential healthcare services to 137 individuals on March 1st, 2026. The camp, held at Infant Mary’s School, Jeppu, ran from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and offered a wide range of medical and dental services.

The camp commenced with an inauguration ceremony presided over by Rev. Fr. Maxim D’Souza, Parish Priest, who officially opened the event. The dais was graced by the presence of Dr. Praveen Chandra, Head of the Podiatric Department; Dr. Vaishak Bhat, Spine Surgeon; Dr. Joey Christie, Ophthalmologist; Sr. Sylvia, Superior of Infant Mary Convent; Mr. Dennis Apos, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Committee; Mrs. Anitha Aranha, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Committee; Miss Reshma Penha, Secretary of Catholic Sabha and ICYM President; and Mrs. Philomena Dsilva, All Commission Coordinator.

Mr. Dennis Apos extended a warm welcome to the attendees. Rev. Fr. Maxim D’Souza, in his inaugural address, underscored the significance of preventive healthcare and highlighted the numerous benefits available through the medical camp. He encouraged parishioners and members of the public to take full advantage of the services provided. Mrs. Savita Platina efficiently anchored the programme, and Miss Reshma Penha, Secretary of Catholic Sabha, Jeppu, delivered the Vote of Thanks.

The medical camp offered a comprehensive suite of healthcare services, including cardiology (free ECG), ophthalmology (free eye check-up), podiatric (foot care examination), general medicine, dermatology, ENT, orthopaedics, gynaecology & obstetrics, paediatrics, and dental care (fillings & scalings). Blood sugar tests were also conducted. KMC Hospital issued Green Cards to eligible patients, granting them access to further treatment benefits upon admission to the hospital.

Dr. Praveen Chandra delivered an insightful talk on diabetes awareness, emphasizing the importance of proper foot care with the motto “I Will Not Walk Barefoot.” He stressed the significance of early diagnosis and regular medical check-ups in preventing diabetes-related complications.

The medical camp saw an encouraging response from the parishioners and the local community. Approximately 45 doctors and nursing staff were involved in the effort, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the camp.

The success of the Free Medical Camp reflected the commitment of St. Joseph Church to community welfare and holistic well-being. The collaboration between the Church, Catholic Sabha, ICYM, Health Commission, KMC Hospitals, and Manipal College of Dental Sciences proved instrumental in making the initiative impactful and meaningful.

The organizers expressed their sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals, volunteers, and participants who contributed to the resounding success of the camp.
