Fringe Elements Barge into Koraga Community House for Consuming Beef
Udupi: In a shocking incident, fringe elements assaulted a Koraga family for allegedly consuming beef at Trasi, Kundapur.
The Koraga community members were having dinner on April 24 as part of the engagement ceremony which was scheduled on April 25 and were consuming meat. The bride is the sister of Shakuntala, gram panchayat member of Hosadu, Trasi.
Members belonging to a fringe group allegedly led by Gururaj Acharya, Sunil Poojary and Chandrakanth Poojary along with 10 other persons barged into the house and assaulted the community members who were having dinner for allegedly consuming beef. The group assaulted the youth and also abused the Koraga community members. They also threatened of setting fire to 8 houses in the Koraga Colony.
The group then informed the police to take the Koraga youth into custody. The police took 4 youth, Harish resident of Ganadamakki (26), Srikanth resident of Halladi (19) and Mahesh resident of Konki (20) into custody. An investigation was initiated against the youth, they were later released following a bail order. Harish who had sustained injuries during the attack was admitted to the hospital in Kundapur. Shakuntala has filed a complaint in the Gangolli Police station on charges of assault and atrocities.
Associations have now urged the police to nab the accused involved in the assault on the Koraga community members.
