Ganja Found in Car of Externed Accused; Arrested

Malpe: Police recovered ganja from the car of an externed accused who attempted to flee, causing an accident within Malpe Police Station limits.

According to police, Mohammed Faizal had been externed under orders from the Special Executive Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police of the Udupi district. After learning of his presence within Malpe jurisdiction, officers proceeded to serve the externment order near Hoode Nagabrahma Babbu Swamy Daivasthana in Paduthonse village.

On noticing the police, the accused—who was seated in a white car—allegedly reversed the vehicle abruptly, lost control, and crashed into a roadside coconut tree before fleeing the scene. The vehicle sustained significant damage in the incident. A case of rash driving and negligence was subsequently registered at Malpe Police Station.

During a spot mahazar conducted on March 28, police recovered 173.42 grams of ganja from the accident-hit Hyundai Creta, estimated to be worth around Rs 8,000. Two mobile phones—a Samsung device worth Rs 6,000 and a blue Honor handset valued at Rs 5,000—were also seized from the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused, along with an accomplice, had stored the ganja with the intent to sell it. A separate case has been registered in this regard at Malpe Police Station.

The accused, identified as Mohammed Faizal, a resident of Karkala taluk, was later arrested by the Sub-Inspector of Karkala Town Police Station and will be produced before the court, police said.
