Mumbai, Oct 17 (IANS) Actress Tillotama Shome, who garnered critical acclaim for her performance in director Anup Singh’s “Qissaa”, says her role in “Nayantara’s Necklace” is very different from the ones she used to receive earlier.

“I used to get offers for serious, tensed, dying or being raped kind of roles. In ‘Nayantara’s Necklace’, I got to play a light-hearted role which I don’t get to explore usually,” she said at the release event of the film here.

Talking about her role in the film, Tillotama stated: “For me, ‘Nayantara’s Necklace’ was taking refuge in playing a character with lighter note, with sense of celebration about life.”

“My role is of a woman who wants to take risk, has a sense of adventure. A woman who feels and like to cross the line. She is transgressive, going and meeting a man and giving a feeling of romance. So difficulty was in thinking how I would do that, being who I am. But once I started something I found everything went out smoothly,” she added.

On the work front, Tillotama said she will be seen in Anup’s next film “Mantra”.

“I have a small part in the film which is hopefully something which is going to push me forward. For that I am doing workshops right now. And I am also currently a part of Rajat Kapoor’s workshop. After ‘Nayantara’s Necklace’ I am throwing myself into scenarios that I have never put myself in,” she said.

“Nayantara’s Necklace”, a 20-minute dramatic thriller based on a true incident, unfolds a story of a friendship between two women. With suspense and surprises, the short film revolves around a necklace which is also used as a metaphor for things which may not seem to be what they actually are.

The film, released by Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films, showcases the empty spaces that exist behind the bustling lives in a modern metropolis, which results in forming an accidental friendship between two completely opposite characters played by Konkona Sen Sharma and Tillotama.

It is directed by Jaydeep Sarkar, known for writing films like “Shaurya: It Takes Courage to Make Right… Right” and “Khoya Khoya Chand”.
