Govt has Taken Measures to Prevent Water Scarcity in District – Ivan D’Souza

Mangaluru: “To prevent the scarcity of water in the city all measures have been taken. At present, the water level at the Thumbay dam is 4.7 meters and at the AMR dam, it is 18 meters. Since Mangaluru and Batwal Taluk have been declared as drought affected areas, a meeting in this regard was convened with the Deputy commissioner, Zilla Panchayat CEO and the commissioner of MCC to prevent a crisis in the supply of water”, said Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at his chamber here on March 30.

Addressing the mediapersons Ivan said, “We have already instructed the concerned authorities to release only 10 MGD of water to MRPL and MSEZ instead of the usual 15 MGD water. To supply water within the MCC limits Rs 2 crore has been reserved and for the repair of the water supply pipelines Rs 6 crore has been released. In the district, there are 5,868 borewells and 1,568 vented dams. The government has sanctioned Rs 2.14 crore for the repair work and already 174 dams are under repair”.

Ivan also said, “We have identified 34 borewell points and soon borewells will be dug in those places. There are enough funds to solve all problems related to the drinking water and the government is committed to providing drinking water to the people.”

President of state Cashew board B H Qader, former mayor Ashraf, Nagendra Kumar, Hemanath Shetty Puttur and others were also present.
