Great Dane donates Blood to Save Pomeranian Life

Life is precious-Man or Animal! A Great Dane breed of dog in Chennai donates blood to save a Pomeranian breed of dog in Mumbai.

Yes, life is precious- human or animal. As humans worldwide celebrated “World Blood Donors Day” on June 14, here in India, Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) marked WBDD, by donating blood from a Great Dane breed of dog in Chennai, which is registered in the University Blood Bank for dogs, to a Pomeranian breed of dog in Mumbai.

Sources reveal that a three-year-old Pomeranian in Mumbai, weighing about 13 kg, contracted with a chronic infection, urgently was in need of a blood transfusion. Its owner, James Dhillon, a resident of Mumbai, frantically called TANUVAS and requested the authorities for canine blood to save his dog since he could not find it in Mumbai. TANUVAS which has a full-fledged blood bank for dogs was able to help James with his request.

The veterinarians at TANUVAS first assessed the health condition of the infected Pomeranian, and they found out that the infection was obstructing secretion of blood and its packed cell volume (PCV) had plummeted to 10% as per the records submitted by James. Pointing out that a dog should have 35% to 40% PCV, the veterinarians said that the Pomeranian’s life would be in danger when it loses even 1% of PCV, they immediately called the owner of the 45-kg Great Dane named Simba in Chennai who agreed to donate its blood. The owner of the Pomeranian dog, James flew all the way from Mumbai to Chennai at night and collected the blood from Chennai next day morning and returned back to Mumbai quickly with the blood packed in a freezer, in time to save his dog.

It is noted that Simba, the Great Dane is donating blood for the second time in less than a year. According to TANUVAS authorities, a healthy dog can donate blood three times a year. After the news of this blood donation by a dog spread out through the media, many animal lovers having pets have come forward to register their dogs names in the TANUVAS Blood Bank, which at present has 76 registered members with 25 active donors.

I’ve seen on this forum certain individuals and readers demanding slaughter of street dogs. I wish Indians can show compassion to all animals, not just their own pets!! As someone who is truly passionate about animal rights, I find Indian mindset towards stray cats and dogs very troubling. Oh well…

Well, let those stray dogs bite the backside of your Dhogla chaddi.. as you wear your costume and go marching from Ucchila or wherever you hail from. …..whenever you come down once in 10 years. AND then, you’d know.

Say, are you gonna blame Mr. Lobo for this? Or Naleena Kateela?

Well, it’s not just stray dogs, the expensive pet dogs of rich folks can also bite your back!! I understand that you know very little about dogs as you spent most of your adult life in Saudi Arabia where dogs are hated with passion!!!!
