International standard Gym matching to come up in Udupi – Madhwaraj

Udupi: A state of the art gymnasium of international standards will be built in Udupi said Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Fisheries and Minister in-charge District Pramod Madhwaraj. He was speaking after inaugurating the District Level Youth Convention at Tenkanidiyoor Panchayat Hall here on March 25.

   Four gyms have been allocated in the budget costing Rs 2 crore. The gyms will be set up with modern equipment of international standard. The gym will cater to the needs of Youths at a nominal membership fee.

The two new schemes for Youth are announced in the budget. Rs 20 crore have been allocated for the Yuva Chaitanya Scheme. Village level Youth organisations will be provided with sports accessories costing rupees 1 lakh. Youth Self Help groups will be effectively promoted. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has allocated Rs 285 crores for the Sports department and the programmes proposed in the budget will be commenced from April 1.

A women sports hostel has been sanctioned for Udupi costing Rs 1 crore and also a swimming pool costing Rs 1 crore has been sanctioned to Udupi. A Taluk sports stadium will be built at Nejar.

ZP Vice President Sheila K Shetty, ZP Member Janardhan Thonse, Neharu Yuva Kendra Convener Jacinta D’Souza, Government First Grade College Principal Prof Balakrishna Hegde, Entrepreneur Prakayath Shetty and others were present.
