Heavy Rain: Holiday Declared for Schools, PU Colleges, ITIs and Diploma Colleges in Dakshina Kannada on July 25

Mangaluru: In view of the heavy rainfall across Dakshina Kannada district and the forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Bengaluru, the district administration has declared a holiday on July 25 for all Anganwadis, government, aided and private schools, Pre-University (PU) Colleges (up to Class 12), Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Diploma Colleges as a precautionary measure.

The Deputy Commissioner and the District Disaster Management Authority issued the order. The administration warned that legal action would be initiated under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, against anyone found violating the order.

Parents have been advised to ensure that children do not venture into waterlogged low-lying areas, lakes, rivers, or seashores. The district administration has also issued a strict advisory directing fishermen not to venture into the sea under any circumstances.

All district- and taluk-level officials have been instructed to remain stationed at their respective headquarters and ensure the effective implementation of disaster management measures. They have also been directed to respond promptly to public grievances and remain in constant contact with the District Collector’s control room.

Tourists and members of the public have been urged to avoid visiting riversides, seashores, and other vulnerable locations. Concerned departments in every taluk have been instructed to establish relief centres and make all necessary preparations to handle any emergency.

The district administration has appealed to the public to contact the District Control Room for assistance in the event of any emergency related to the prevailing weather conditions or any natural disaster.
