If Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) got Indium Premium League (IPL) 2018, St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute got Aloysius Premium League (APL) 2018

Mangaluru: Yes, the IPL kind of Cricket fever was back in Town, and this time at the St Aloysius Centenary Ground-Mangaluru, when St Aloysius INdustrial Training Institute (SAITI) Alumni Association hosted ‘Aloysius Premium League (APL)- a DK and Udupi District Level Inter ITI Overarm Cricket and Throw Ball Tournament, played on St Aloysius centenary Ground-Mangaluru on Friday, 9 March 2018. The SAITI Alumni Association to mark the completion of their Silver Jubilee Year had organized this event. Just like the IPL, here the APL has become a proper platform for the upcoming cricket talents of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi ITI students to step into greater heights in the cricket field. Nine teams participated in the Overarm Cricket Tournament, while two teams took part in the Throw Ball tournament.

The event began with invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song by the students of SAITI, followed by welcome address by Naveen Rasquinha- President of SAITI Alumni Association. The event was inaugurated by releasing the balloons in the air by Chief Guest -Ganesh Rao-Chairman, Karavali Group of Colleges, Mangaluru; along with other dignitaries on the dais namely- Fr Dionysius Vaz Sj -Rector, St Aloysius Institutions; Fr Leo D’souza Sj- Former Rector of St Aloysius Institutions/Former Director, SAITI; Fr Eric Mathias Sj- Director, SAITI; Rajaneesk Kapikad- Former MCC Deputy Mayor; Vincent Mendonsa- Principal, SAITI and Rajesh Kumar-Secretary SAITI Alumni Association.

Addressing the gathering chief guest Ganesh Rao said, ” First of all you should all know that winning in this tournament is not important, but participating in it is. You are all winners already by taking the bold step in coming forward to fight in this tournament. You need to play with determination and enthusiasm, play with smile on your face and anxiousness- and not in a sober and grumpy attitude. You have all come here to unleash your sporting talents, so do it with love and determination. This is a ground when India Cricketer K L Rahul played and has now reacher greater heights in the cricket field. May be you could also be one of the budding cricketer of India. I have close association with this institution, where my one son did his primary education here, while my other son is getting trained in cricket right on this ground. Wish you all best of luck in both the tournaments-play with faith and truth, don’t argue or blame the umpires, play with a motto and dream to win. If you don’t win this timed it’s okay, you’ll more chances later- Try, try and you’ll succeed. All the best”

Also speaking on the occasion. Rector Fr Dionysius Vaz sj said, ” I am happy to note that a First of its kind APL is played on this ground, where Indian cricketer who was our student, K L Rahul had played and has now become an Indian cricket star. Just like the chief guest said, “Winning is not important, participating is important”. You should all follow in the footsteps of K L Rahul, and thus look forward to be like him, and play in the Indian Cricket Team. If you have determination and dedication, anything is possible. This institution apart from academics has provided all the facilities when it comes to sports activities, and many have our students have shine and brought laurels and fame to our institute. I wish you, both boys and girls all success in the tournaments”.

Ex-SAITI student Deeraj Neermarga, who has reached greater heights as a artist and actor, and also his role in the TV show “Comedy Kiladi” was felicitated by the chief guest and dignitaries – also SAITI Junior Training Officer Alwyn Menezes was also felicitated for his dedicated and sincere service in the Alumni Association/Institute. The vote of thanks was proposed by Rajith Kumar, while the event was compered by Robin Vas, a faculty at SAITI.

With the Cricket final toss won by St Mary’s ITI, Chitpady, Udupi, they elected to bat and were the Winners. Runners-up were Trinity ITI, Udyavar and 3rd place bagged by HEBICH ITI, Mangalore. 4th place: M.R.P. ITI, Mulki. Best Bowler award was given to Siddique from Trinity ITI, Udyavara. Best Batsman and Man of the Series to Prasit from St Mary’s ITI, Chitpady, Udupi. In Throwball, Winners: St Aloysius ITI, Mangalore and Runners: S.D.M. Mangalajyothi ITI, Vamanjoor; Best Player from Winner team: Ms Seemal. Best player from runners team: Ms Zeenath. Refree’s of Cricket match were: Vishu Kumar and Ajith; and Refree of Throwball was Ganesh, Physical Director, Yenepoya College APL -2018. Winners in Cricket received Trophy, along with Rs 12,000 cash prize.

The teams that participated in Cricket Tournament were : Hebich ITI, Mangaluru; St Joseph’s ITI-Mangaluru; M R Poonja ITI-Thokkur, DK; SDM Mangalajyothi ITI; St Aloysius ITI; Trinity ITI-Udupi; BA ITI-Thumbay; Government ITI-Mangaluru; and St Mary’s ITI- Udupi; In throw ball tournament-St Aloysius ITI, and SDM ITI participated.
