Preparations for Tuesday’s re-exam of the II PU Chemistry paper are in full swing. Top officials have kept the steps they have taken to prevent another leak under wraps.
Bengaluru: An official with the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) said the papers have already been dispatched and that they would be at the district treasuries on Monday.
“The government has taken a number of measures to ensure that the exam goes on smoothly. A team of IAS officers will also be dispatched to monitor the exams along with PU officials. Good arrangements have been made. CCTVs will be extensively used this time” he said.
There are reports that unlike in previous years, numerous sets of question papers have also been prepared to avert another leak. The question paper was also prepared in great secrecy.
The three-man committee including PU board director Ramegowda and Sarva Shikasha Abhiyan (SSA) state project director P C Jaffer, specifically appointed to ensure a successful re-examination, will ensure that end-to-end issues are taken care of. Principal Secretary Ajay Seth and Ramegowda refused to give definite responses to queries on preparations. Attempts to reach Jaffer failed. Primary and Secondary and Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar said precautions to conduct the exam smoothly are being taken and he also talked about a complete overhaul of the exams in the coming years.
Sai Vaibhav a student of Janaseva Vidhyakendra is so fed up with the chemistry re-exam that he stopped preparing for Tuesday’s examination. “I am no longer interested in studying for the exam. On the main day, I will just write the exam as I have already revised it twice. I have lost hope of doing well,” said Vaibhav.
Another student said: “I’m not in a mood to read the same book again. I’ve read it more than five to six times and now it causes an aversion. It is horrible to take a ‘re re-exam’. We are in a competitive exam zone now and going back to preparing for chemistry is pretty irritating. It cuts down the number of days for CET prep as well.”
Ashwin Shetty, a student of MES Kishore Kendra says, “If the paper turns out difficult I do not know what I will do. I just hope it will be easy and the questions are student-friendly. The competitive examinations are also approaching and we are more concerned in preparing for them than the chemistry examination,” he said.

As to those lazy students who don’t want to read the book because they have already read it before, all I can say is that life isn’t fair or perfect. Clearly my simple, harmless post wishing PUC students luck has triggered a major ‘ajeerna’ attack on Saudi-returned Praveena Pinto. Is it because it reminded him of his own disastrous performance in PUC back in 80s? Could it be because it reminded him of his ‘bhagna swapna’ and how he eventually settled for saudi in place of West? Who knows? Anyway, going forward, I will give plenty of trigger warning so he can avoid falling sick!! smiles…
