In the Wake of CBI Raid on D K Shivakumar’s Home in Bengaluru, Showing Solidarity Dakshina Kannada (DK ) Youth Congress under the leadership of its President Mithun Rai holds protest condemning the raid

Mangaluru : Recalling the incident, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday conducted raids at Congress leader DK Shivakumar’s 14 properties in Karnataka, Mumbai, and Delhi in an alleged corruption case. Shivakumar’s brother and Bengaluru Rural MP DK Suresh’s houses in Karnataka have also been raided by the central agency. The CBI has registered a case against the Karnataka Congress chief on allegations of acquisition of disproportionate assets. Searches are being conducted today at 14 locations including nine in Karnataka, four in Delhi, and one in Mumbai. It may be recalled, CBI recovered over Rs 50 lakh in cash at one of the DKS homes in Bengaluru.

As per sources, the CBI teams conducted raids at DK Shivakumar house in Sadashivanagar in Bengaluru and DK Suresh’s properties in Kanakapura and Bengaluru. It should be noted that last year, Shivakumar was lodged at New Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with a money laundering case probed by the Enforcement Directorate. Shivakumar was arrested on September 3, 2019, by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case filed in 2018 following an investigation by the Income Tax Department in 2017, when unaccounted cash to the tune of more than Rs 8 crore was found in New Delhi in locations allegedly linked to the Congress leader.

Tit for tat, reacting to the raids on DKS homes, Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress in Mangaluru, under the leadership of Mithun Rai, the president of Youth Congress protested in front of DK Congress office, Mallikatte, Mangaluru on Monday 5 October 2020, under the leadership of district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai. Congress leaders A C Vinayaraj and Praveen Alva among others also joined in the protest. The protesters tried to burn a few tyres, but the police quickly intervened and stopped it. When the protesters sat in the middle of the road in front of the Congress office, the police arrested Mithun Rai and a few others and took them to Kadri East police station, for holding the protest and blocking without permission and violating Covid-19 guidelines.

But it seemed like a joy-ride for Mithun Rai from Mallikatta Congress Office to Kadri police station in the police jeep, because he was dropped back at the pick up place within ten minutes- and all the youth congress members hailed saying “Mithun Rai ki Jai, BJP ke Dikkara”! Mithuin called the raid by CBI an attempt to “mislead public, and condemned the raids saying it was all tactics playing by BJP central and state governments.

Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Mithun Rai said, “The raid by CBI isa political vendetta and an “insidious game of intimidation”. The insidious game of intimidation and machinations of Modi-Yeddyurappa duo being executed by a puppet CBI by raiding homes of DKShivakumar won’t deter us. CBI should be unearthing the layers of corruption in Yeddyurappa Govt. But, ‘Raid Raj’ is their only ‘Machiavellian Move’! Let Modi and Yeddyurappa Govts, and BJP’s frontal organizations i.e CBI-ED-Income Tax know that Congress workers and leaders will not be cowed down nor bow down before such devious attempts. Our resolve to fight for people and expose BJP’s maladministration only becomes stronger. Afraid of losing the Sira and RR Nagar by-polls, the BJP is resorting to these tactics. We won’t be cowed down and will fight this. BJP has always tried to indulge in vindictive politics and mislead public attention. This raid is another attempt to derail our preparation for bypolls. DK Youth Congress strongly condemn this, and we will fight it out.
