Intellectuals should dare to enter Mosques instead of Sri Krishna Math: Pramod Muthalik

Udupi: Sri Rama Sena President Pramod Muthalik visited Sri Krishna Math on Wednesday, October 19.

Pramod Muthalik visited the temple and met Sri Vishewesha Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Pejawar Math. He also strongly condemned the remarks made by the activists who took part in “Chalo Udupi” and discussed the recent developments. Muthalik extended all type of support from Sri Rama Sene to the Swamiji.

Speaking to media persons Muthalik said that the so-called, self-claimed intellectuals had issued derogatory remarks against the Pejawar Swamiji and Sri Krishna Math during the Chalo Udupi programme. These self-claimed intellectuals, speak about the secularism of the country, can they dare to enter Mosques? First, they should clean the unfair practices practiced in the Mosques and then come to the temple. Sri Ram Sene is ready to face these intellectuals. If at all the activists dare to lay seize to Sri Krishna temple, the Sri Rama Sene activists would be compelled to show off their strength, he warned.

There is no any Pankti Bheda or Untouchability in the Sri Krishna Math. The Pejawar Swamiji along with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad have always fought for equality and stood with the Dalits from many years. However, some So-called, self-claimed intellectuals are trying to spoil the peace in Udupi.

Commenting over Minister Pramod Madhwaraj’s Rama and Krishna were non-vegetarians statement Muthalik said that there is nothing wrong in Madhwaraj’s statement. He said that Rama and Krishna were non-vegetarians, he did not say that they were consuming cow meat. If Madhwaraj had spoken about Cow meat then I’ll surely oppose it. Muthalik demanded Madhwaraj to stop cow slaughter in the Udupi district.

  1. I wonder what this man has to say! I have been to enough number of temples, mosques, churches, gurdwaras, jain bastie and boudh viharas nowhere have I been prevented from entering!

  2. Caste-based temple controversies are nothing new. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was stopped at the gates of the Jagannath temple in Puri as she was deemed an outcast for marrying a non-Hindu.
In 2014, a temple in Bihar’s Madhubani district was “purified” — the shrine cleaned and its idols washed — after a visit by then chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, a member of the Musahar community.
Caste-centric discrimination, or untouchability, was banned in India in 1955, but centuries-old feudal attitudes persist in many parts of the country and Dalits, who represent 16% of the country’s population, still face prejudice in every sector. They are sometimes beaten or killed for using a well or worshipping at a temple.

In a first-of-its-kind study on a large scale, representing 98,000 Dalits across 1,655 villages in Gujarat. it comes out that 97 % respondents feel they have ‘no entry’ at certain places in their own villages, including a temple or where a religious ceremony is taking place.
Mahatma Gandhi himself wrote about the problem of untouchability in Gujarat when he set about establishing a base in Ahmedabad. He said in his writings that when he insisted on keeping a Dalit (‘Harijan’ as he insisted on calling them) in his ashram here, people started shying away. Even sponsors developed cold feet and funds started drying up. Bapu put his foot down and had his way.
Almost 95 years later, Gujarat is still not listening to the Mahatma even as the world tuned in. The bar for Dalits is felt at not only temples but also ‘satsangs’ and ‘kathas’. At these religious events, not being able to sit on a cot/chair with other upper castes, has been clearly established as a sign of untouchability.
The study has been carried out by Ahmedabad-based Navsarjan Trust with three US-based organisations — the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, Dartmouth College at the University of Michigan and Robert F. Kennedy Centre for Social Justice and Human Rights, Washington, DC.
Pejwar head should be spearhead movement in abolishing discrimination instead he encourage practice of roll over on the left overs of higher caste which has medically proven no benefit.
I concur with Mr.Narendra Nayak statement. Rama sena chief should be free to visit any mosques of his choice.I can arrange church entry to both Ram sena Chief and Pejawar through my old friends of Udupi Diocese.

  3. I notice that some people are conveniently ignoring the bigger point that Muthalik was making. Let me quote his own words from this report – “First, they should clean the unfair practices practiced in Mosques…”

For starters, how about gender segregation? Muthalik is not somebody that I would agree with on many many topics including religion and imaginary gods. But, he is pointing out the hypocrisy of secular activists who are very ‘brave’ to pick on hindus and especially ‘brahmana’ people. But the same guys are shamelessly silent and they go on hiding when you bring up issues associated with a specific minority. To be fair, these hilarious characters are not unique to India. We have plenty of them here in Western society as well!!!

How many of these activists have come forward challenging blasphemy laws? How many of these activists are willing to stand up for ‘freedom of speech’ and publish certain cartoons or pictures? How many of these guys are out there fighting for uniform civil code to protect the rights of women in a minority community?
